Special Forces — Mt. Pleasant, PA

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

Many years ago I headed to Bible college to study for the Lord’s work. In my prayer group my freshmen year was Rick Fox. Rick is now the pastor at Mt. Carmel and it was a blessing to see him faithfully serving the Lord.

The Lord worked marvelously this week. The recruiting went well, but we did have some negative calls in to the church so we felt the spiritual battle. On Wednesday night though, we had about 30% of the recruits show up. The spirit was high and the Lord worked in hearts.

One of our team captains found out that one of the church members drove a school bus. He asked if he could ride to school with him in the morning. He did so and recruited a bunch of the kids on the bus. Seven of those kids came and several got saved. The sad part was that the bus driver got fired over it. There was obviously a misunderstanding. We went to the school to attempt to explain things. We were glad to hear that a few weeks later he was rehired. Wow!

There were two guys and a girl who came each night. They told me that they had gotten saved at the last War of Special Forces. They were glad to be saved and one commented about his salvation, “It has been quite a journey!”

One young man got saved and afterwards commented to one of the team members,

“What I felt in there, I don’t feel at my church. I want to come to this church.”

Thank God for the ministry of the Holy Spirit!

One young man came with his father on Sunday morning and one of them raised their hand indicating the need of salvation. The teenage young man came back on Thursday evening, but did not respond to the invitation. One of the team captains talked with him after a friend of his came out of the counseling room after getting saved. His friend said, “You just got to believe. Trust Jesus to wash your sins away.” He urged this young man to talk to someone. He did and Trystan, the Marine captain, led him to the Lord.

A mother brought four teens. One of the girls who had gotten saved was concerned for a younger sister. My wife gave the Gospel to the mother and her daughter. The mother encouraged her daughter, who was 9 years old, to get saved. My wife was able to lead her to the Lord.

One young man in the Christian school wanted to burn his iPhone. He had talked with his dad about viewing and music failure. It is a blessing when a teen wants to not make provision for the flesh.

We thank the Lord for all He did in hearts!
