UPDATE: Minutemen HQ Renting and Rezoning

Jim Van GelderenMinutemen Headquarters

Well, the journey continues! As the May deadline loomed, we saw that our goal to meet the down payment set by the bank was coming up short. We were grateful for the funds that had come in towards the project, but they were not close to the needed down payment. The bank had required from us a $125,000 down payment which was quite large. When we communicated with the owner the fact we were quite a bit short, he suggested we keep paying the payments, utilities and taxes just like we owned it and a contract would be drawn up so that when the payments are completed, we would own the building. We are presently working on the contract. We will pay the payments directly to the bank, the utilities to the utility companies, and the taxes to the village just like we owned it. So far every obstacle has been overcome when we have come up against a wall. Because things were in flux, we asked the village to table the rezoning on May 20 which they did. Monday, June 3 however, the owner asked them to vote on rezoning. On Monday, June 3rd, the village board rezoned the property as we requested. This will make our future plans for the Headquarters workable. Now the final obstacle is paying the property off in a timely fashion.

In the meantime we have had several seminary students at BCM rent rooms from us. A family in our church is renting the center apartment. It looks like a good income stream is forming to help cover the payments, utilities and taxes. This is another encouragement from the Lord.

With all that said we are still in the fund raising mode. Both one time gifts and monthly support will be a great help in moving toward our goal. Please visit the donation page to make a donation. We would like to raise enough funds to pay off the property sooner than later. We will have more information later as things progress. Thank you so much for your interest, prayers and gifts.
