An Interview with Aaron Simonsen

Jessica GrafUncategorized

Aaron Simonsen is traveling on the War of Special Forces team this spring as the Navy Seal team captain. His parents are missionaries in Kenya. Below is a short interview:

How did you get on the Special Forces team?
Dr. Jim invited me to travel with him about 9 months in advance. Immediately, I knew that this was of the Lord. I accepted almost immediately.

What college did you graduate from?
I graduated from Independent Baptist College of Ministry, in Nairobi, Kenya. It is a daughter school of Baptist College of Ministry in Menomonee Falls, WI.

What are some things that are difficult about being in America?
The biggest one would be adjusting to the weather. Kenya is always warm, so coming to the US (particularly Wisconsin) in January was difficult!

What is your favorite Kenyan sweet?
Cadbury’s mint chocolate candy bars are a top favorite!

What are your thoughts on coffee?
In my humble opinion, there are better options for hot beverages. Kenyan chai tea is one of them. It has been six weeks, and I have not had any coffee in America, yet! Shocking, isn’t it?

What other interesting fact would you like to share with us about Kenya?
Kenyans have no idea about American football, baseball, or hockey. Basketball has a very small following. The only sport we know is soccer!

What do you believe God wants you to do after this tour is over?
I do believe I need to pursue further ministerial training. However, my burden is to see Kenyan high schoolers and university students reached with the Gospel immediately. The needs are great, but the labourers are too few!
