Special Forces – Clinton, NC

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

The team has had the privilege of being at New Life Baptist Church in Clinton, NC. It was great to be with Pastor Page again. Several times we have been in the area in the fall right when the cotton was about to be harvested. For all of us northerners, we were amazed by seeing a field that looks like it was snowed on! This year we were here in the spring, so there was no cotton, but we do thank the Lord for some spiritual harvest in lives!

Many of the young people had not responded throughout the week, and there was definitely a lot of resistance. During Friday chapel, the final invitation was given for the Christian school, and only two responded. The students went back to class. One of the middle school teachers was burdened for her students and challenged them that several of them needed to respond, but hadn’t. She gave them another opportunity to go back for counsel, and six of the students responded. One young lady received Christ as her Savior as a result of responding to the invitation.

One young man from the Christian school was not saved and God was really all over him during the week. During team meeting on Thursday, it was evident that he was struggling, but he still wouldn’t respond. Joshua spoke to him later, and the young man was ready. He placed his dependence in Christ to save him. Joshua was also able to lead two other young men from the Christian school to the Lord as well this week!

One young man was invited on Sunday to the rally nights. He had been to Bible school before and had heard the gospel, but had never responded. He came and participated all three nights, but didn’t respond to any invitations. On Friday night, Aaron talked to him. They sat down and reviewed the gospel, and the young man trusted Christ to save him that night!

John met two young men at the park playing basketball. He invited both of them to the rally nights. They came out on Wednesday night. They both responded to the invitation, and both of them got saved! One came back on Thursday night, bringing a friend along. This young man also got saved! All three came back on Friday night saying that they wanted to start coming to church.

One young man who had come to the church youth group came out to the rally nights. He realized his need for salvation and accepted Christ as his Savior. He came back on Thursday night, bringing two friends with him. These two girls got saved or received assurance of their salvation this week. One of them gave a testimony on Friday evening:

“So…I had been listening to their testimonies that they had given….and they spoke to my heart. And I just realized that I needed God, because I was struggling for a long time, and that He was there and could help…. And a young lady…she helped me review verses, and told me that I was loved and God was there. And I got saved this week.”

Praise the Lord for the souls saved this week!
