Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

Over the years we have had the privilege of coming to Faith Baptist Church and Deltona Christian School often with the War of Special Forces every two years. Each time is always a blessing. We have come to love the leadership and people. There are many good memories of working together, and this year was no exception. We had 120 different teens attend and there was 102 on the high night.

One young man responded early in the week to the invitation. He had sin in his life that he needed to deal with. He didn’t want to go back on his decision, so he took the step to get open with an authority at school.

One young man was invited by a school teen and came out to the evening rally. He raised his hand to get saved but didn’t go back. Abi, the Ranger team co-captain, tapped him on the shoulder and asked if he wanted to go talk to someone. He didn’t, but Abi started talking to him right after everyone was dismissed. His cousins were standing around and there were a lot of distractions, but he listened as Abi went through the gospel. He had split trust between Jesus and other things, but he soon trusted in Jesus alone to save him!

Another young man spoke with Zach, the Ranger team captain, after the testimony service on Friday night. Zach was able to give him material to encourage him. The young man also got accountable with an authority at school and then spoke to Steve, the Seal team captain, for more encouragement.

One young lady struggled with anxiety and depression. She expressed:

“throughout the entire thing God… showed Himself through it all; He gave me victory in every single wave and He never left me, He never forsook me, He’s never failed me and He…will give me victory because I’m trusting Him right now.”

One young man whose dad had walked out of his life when he was born talked about a message that had spoken to his heart and helped him forgive:

“…Dr. Jim specifically spoke about something that … actually helped me… I believe he said that, he lost his father in his old age and … that he wasn’t just hurt by that, but he realized he had a Heavenly Father and that a Heavenly Father can do just as much as an earthly father can.…I can actually forgive my father for walking out and I am no longer angry or bitter towards him because God does everything for a reason—whether it’s good or bad.”

A young lady had a tender heart toward the Lord throughout the week. The Lord showed her that she had bitterness in her heart toward someone and would frequently hold grudges:

“…I talked to that person this week, and I experienced God’s presence with me because I stepped out of the boat.”

One girl struggled with self-harm for several years. She would try to stop on her own, but would end up going back to it and feeling ashamed. She shared an honest testimony:

“And then this week…I was like, “Ok…this is the time I need to get this right.” So…I’m gonna let God have my body because my body is a temple for Him: it’s not my body. It’s for Him, and I want to be of service for Him. If I keep falling back into that sin, keep taking that blade to my skin, every time I do that, that’s saying like, “This is my body. It’s not God’s body.” So, I’ve decided I’m going to give it to God.

To follow are some other testimonies from the week:

“…God has really spoken to my heart on giving my whole body to God.…a couple years ago I had…addictions with pornography, and it ruined my life…and a couple days ago I decided I was going to remove social media from my phone because of one reason: I know that it can lead to…destruction to your relationship with God….I realized God is the very best friend I’ve ever had.”

“Last year I was bullied a lot in school, and this week has really helped me forgive those people.”

We’re thankful for all God did this week!
