Special Forces Week #2 Tampa, FL

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

It is always a blessing to be with Pastor Pirt and the folks at Westgate Baptist Church in Tampa, FL.  I believe our first visit was in 2007.  Every two years we have considered it a privilege to return.

On Wednesday night we were encouraged with several decisions.  One tall teenager came out of the counselling room and hugged a friend and said, “I just got saved.  I just got saved!”  A young lady in the school raised her hand about her need of salvation.  During the invitation, one of the teachers came to her and invited her to talk.  After an extended time, the teacher led her to the Lord.  Another exciting salvation was a Buddhist mom who was in the service and heard the Gospel message.  Her daughter responded to the invitation and came to get saved.  When the mom was lingering around waiting, one of the co-captains had her go to the counseling room.  There one of our team members led her to the Lord.

Several students responded during the week as the Lord was dealing with them.  One young lady confessed to cheating in some of her classes.  Another young man got right with his parents about stealing from them.  One young man gave a testimony on Friday about his failure to take a stand for what is right.  We were thankful for the teen’s responsiveness to the Lord’s dealing.  It is neat to see the joy that comes when one Biblically deals with their sin.

On the last night of the War of Special Forces, one of the co-captains told of a young lady who wept her way to Jesus.  The counsellor said she was very convicted of her sin.  She said, “Everything he talked about I have done.”  Before the meeting began, our Navy Seals’ captains went over to recruit some guys playing soccer, when he saw three guys on a basketball court.  He approached them and explained the youth rally.  They then followed him over to the church.  To make a long story short, they all ended up getting saved that night!  One of our co-captains was talking with another young lady and asked her about her salvation.  She responded, “I came forward at my church and I felt this hand on me and had a good feeling.”  When the co-captain asked her if she was sure she was going to heaven she said she wasn’t sure.  The co-captain then showed her the plan of salvation and she was saved.  When the final night was over and all the decision cards were counted, there were 40 salvation decisions over the three nights!
