Special Forces Week #3 – Stanardsville, VA

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

Pastor James Woods is a man of vision with a heart for souls. He is 85 and still going strong. While we were here one of his good preacher friends, Jack Greene passed away. Brother Greene was brother to the well known radio preacher, Oliver Greene. It was a sad time for our friends and as a result we did not get to see them much.

The team was last at United Christian Academy in 2005. There have been a few unsuccessful attempts to schedule the team in the last couple of years, but the dates never worked until this fall.

The students soon were into the week and the Navy Seals ended up with a convincing victory while the Rangers and Recon fought a close battle for second place. On Thursday night we had an exciting adventure. The field lights went out during the competition. It takes 15 minutes or so for them to come back on. We used headlights off the cars to the finish the game. The teens will definitely remember that night!

The teens slowly responded to the invitations, but as the week progressed it was more and more obvious the Lord was working. Some parents told the principal that their teens had apologized to them for various things and had gotten right about things they were hiding. On Friday we had a testimony service and several teens gave testimony of getting saved or dealing with hidden sin or bitterness. At the end of the testimony service two students were in tears as God had used the testimonies to convict them. One student trusted the Lord and the other dealt with some worldly music. I always love seeing God use young people to reach young people.

During the evangelistic rally nights we saw several saved. I was struck with the conviction of the Holy Spirit as they responded to the invitation. We are thankful for all the Lord did in this rural area of Virginia.
