Special Forces Week #4 – Fredericksburg, VA

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

Fredericksburg, VA is known for its history.  This week, I trust, more history was made, but this time in the spiritual realm.  The week culminated in a wonderful testimony service and invitation on Friday evening.  I think we had about 45 minutes to an hour of testimonies.  Several young people either got saved or right with the Lord as a result of the testimonies

I have known Mr. Ken Biggs, who is the principal, for many years.  We both attended Marquette Manor Baptist Church where my father was pastor.  Ken is a few years younger than I am so he actually was in my youth group when I was youth pastor for a short time at my home church.  I have been with Ken several times and it has been a blessing to see the Lord using Ken’s ministry.

All week long the Navy Seals led the points, but on Friday night the Marine Recon team staged a successful comeback and won first place.  It all came down to who won the final event, Big Ball Bowling.  Needless to say it was an exciting finish.  But the most exciting part was what the Lord did in hearts!

On Friday during chapel I gave an invitation for those who had gotten right with the Lord publically or privately to go to the old auditorium and pray.  We had a wonderful prayer meeting for quite a few minutes as young people poured out their hearts to God.  When I dismissed, I said that other prayer meetings could take place.  Several stayed and it was clear God was moving.  For a good amount of time students stayed and prayed and sang.  Several corporate prayer meetings took place.  There was brokenness and tears.  The Lord definitely met with several young people, and I trust they will never be the same.  That night 248 teens showed up (there were 144 the night before), the testimonies had impact and more young people responded to get right with the Lord and to get saved.  It was a blessing!
