Special Forces Week #4 – Tampa, FL

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

This is the fourth time the team has been at Westgate Baptist Church. Each time has been a blessing and this year was no exception.

During the school day, the students were very attentive and responsive during chapel. One young man surrendered to preach. He was excited about it. Many of the students got things cleared up with God and man. Friday we had a wonderful prayer meeting with the students in the school. One student texted one of our team captains and said, “I feel free and not trapped in sin. I am just praying that this fire will stay in me and my friends and my school. I know I can’t do it and my friends can’t do it either so we need God.”

Almost 50 young people responded to invitations to be saved. Here are a few stories. One young man got saved Thursday and brought his cousin the next night and his cousin got saved. On Monday afternoon outside one of area high schools one of our captains talked to Angel. He was his last recruit there. Angel asked a lot of questions. On Wednesday Angel was saved and on Friday at the campfire service he gave a testimony of his salvation that brought a chorus of “amens”. A young man named Victor was waiting for a friend outside the counselling room. “I hope he gets saved,” was his comment to those standing nearby. His friend eventually came out and told him, “I got saved” and began to cry. Another young man came to his team captain, who had just preached during team meetings during the school day. “I can’t trust God, because I have never trusted Him to save me,” he said. The captain was able to lead him to salvation. This young man gave his testimony at the campfire as well. It was great week and we know the Lord was at work!
