Special Forces Week #6 – Deltona, FL

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

Ten years ago the Minutemen Evangelistic Team came to Deltona, FL for the first time to conduct the War of Special Forces at Deltona Christian School. We soon found out that Deltona is a great place for this ministry. There are teens everywhere to recruit. Each year we have had great attendance and this year was no exception. Our high night was 130 and we had over 190 different teens attend over the three nights. Over the three nights there were several teens that responded to the Gospel invitation. The first night we had our biggest response to the Gospel. I do not know a number, but the classroom was filled with young men who had responded to the invitation as I presented the Gospel.

We also were grateful for the Lord’s working in the Christian school. A week before the team was there, many of the seniors came to the Victory Conference at Falls Baptist Church (home church to Minutemen Ministries). It was neat to have some ministry with them during the conference and then have the week of Special Forces as well. God was working in many of the lives of the seniors and I understand several of them have given testimonies in school after the team left.

One upperclassman responded during the split session (the guys and girls are separate and the team captains preach to the guys), and before the team captain could even sit down he began to thank him profusely, “Thank you so much. You have no idea how good this feels!” He explained that he had given everything over to God’s keeping and now was free. He told the team captain how he had just made up his mind that he was to be a lawyer, but in all his plans he had never consulted the will of God. Now he had given it all to God for Him to decide what He wanted Him to do. What liberty he had found!

Perhaps the following quotation from one of the testimonies on Friday night epitomizes what the Lord was doing. “I’ve gotten right with those people that I needed to get right with and I’ve gotten right with God. And so I’m just sayin’ that today like I feel amazing! It’s like a huge burden came off my shoulders and it’s like I’m free, again!”
