Special Forces – Wilton, CA

Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

The team has had the privilege of being at Wilton Christian School with the War of Special Forces. It was great to work with Peter Lovelace again. We also enjoyed meeting their new pastor, John Schmidt, and found we knew some of the same people – definitely a small world!

We were grateful for the young people who were saved during the week. A young man came Thursday night but did not go forward during the invitation. One of the team captains asked him if the Lord was working in his heart and if he wanted to get his salvation settled. When the young man agreed, the team captain was able to lead him through the plan of salvation and give him verses on assurance. The young man was saved and left relieved and overwhelmed by his salvation. Also on Thursday night, one of the students from the Christian school brought a friend. This young man was from a Catholic family and definitely was under conviction during the service. He responded during the invitation, but while being counseled clearly was confused by Catholic teachings. One of the team captains was able to show him from the Bible how he did not need to trust in himself plus Jesus Christ to get him to heaven, and he also did not have to spend time in purgatory in order to have eternal life. When the young man came to that realization, he had a “light bulb” moment and was gloriously saved. Another young man recognized his need of salvation every night, but pushed off the issue of where he would spend eternity even up until the final night. One of the team captains encouraged him to step out during the invitation to get the matter settled. He was clearly under deep conviction and responded to the team captain’s encouragement. After he admitted his need of salvation, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior with tears. He left a changed person as he walked out on Friday night. Another young lady testified on Friday,

“Before this week I didn’t know if I was ready to go to Heaven. I didn’t know if I was worthy enough to go to Heaven. I thought that I made too many sins in my life and I didn’t know how Christ could forgive me until I came here and I realized that…He could forgive me and I could do anything through Christ.”

We thank the Lord for others who were saved throughout the three nights as well!

During the meetings in the Christian school, the Lord worked in hearts. One young man responded early in the week by talking to Dr. Jim about sin he was hiding behind his parents’ back. There was a definite battle in his heart on Monday and Tuesday as he recognized his sin, but he did not want to get it right with his parents. Finally on Wednesday, he called his dad and confessed to hiding things behind his parents’ back. At that point, he found the freedom he had been looking for. On Friday he testified,

“For the past couple of years I have been in sin. I have done things behind my parents’ back. And through this week, I needed to admit it to God. I did. He helped me have the strength to tell my parents. And it’s through that that I have become free of the 5 of 6 years of sin I have lived in. It has made my life a lot harder than it should be. But now I am free from that sin, and now I can always do anything when God helps me.”

We thank the Lord for all He did in hearts. It was a blessing to work with these young people!
