In 1960, our family moved to Durango, Colorado. Even though we moved again 6 years later, Colorado has always been a part of my youth. For the first time our team had the privilege of going to Cortez, Colorado which is about an hour away from Durango. It was our first visit to this church and school. There were so many encouraging things that happened during our days there.
On Thursday night, there was a girl who raised her hand in the invitation but did not respond. Elaina, the co-captain of the Seals, attempted to speak with the girl about salvation but she said she was not ready to get saved yet. The girl seemed very uncomfortable. Bethany, the co-captain of the Marines, was burdened that this girl was resistant and went and talked to her. After Bethany went through the gospel again and emphasized the brevity of life, the girl prayed and trusted Christ.
One of the church deacon’s grandsons invited a friend to the evening rally who came and got saved on Thursday evening. Later that grandson told Austin, the captain of the Marines, that his friend getting saved was the highlight of his evening.
On Wednesday, two girls from the Rangers team went soulwinning with their co-captain, Isabelle, even though it was raining. They came to a house where a mom was standing outside and Isabelle asked the mom if she had any teens. The mom went inside and got her teen daughter and Isabelle invited her to come to the evening rallies. The girl was not able to come on Thursday evening but she did come on Friday evening and got saved. Isabelle later found out that the girl had been invited to a youth event a few months prior but did not quite understand the gospel. The mom had been praying that her daughter would have another encounter with the gospel soon!
There was a teen boy in the Christian school whom Joe, the captain of the Rangers, was able to counsel regarding bitterness. This boy was able to understand that his bitterness towards his angry dad was affecting his younger siblings.
Elaina, the co-captain of the Seals, got to counsel a girl from the Christian school who was dealing with a lot of anger and bitterness. She also had things hidden from her parents and realized how these things were holding her in bondage. She confessed them to the Lord and then took steps to make things right with her parents. At the end of the week, this girl texted Elaina and said “the Lord really worked on my heart and I made things right with Him and my parents. I don’t think I would have ever told my parents if I didn’t hear these messages and had help through it! I’m so so thankful for you and the whole team!!”
