Jim Van GelderenSpecial Forces Updates

On Wednesday at the local middle school, Polly, the Marine co-captain, recruited a young girl. Polly was unable to get her number, but the young girl came the following night. She got involved in the competitions and listened intently to the gospel message. She responded at the invitation, and Polly had the privilege to lead her to the Lord!

Julianna, the Seal co-captain, recruited a young man on Tuesday at the local high school. The next day he attended the War night rally and received Christ as his Savior! He came all three nights and testified on Friday at the camp fire service:

“Before I came here, I did a lot of sinning. I lied to many of my friends and parents, and I disrespected my parents in ways I very regret doing. But after I came here, Jesus forgave me from my sins because He died on the cross for all of us, not just for one of us.”

Simeon, the Marine captain, recruited a young man on Monday evening who came out to the Wednesday night rally. He raised his hand in the invitation, but did not respond. Simeon was able to fish him in the parking lot. At first, he couldn’t comprehend how God could forgive him, but he finally understood it was a gift. He was clearly saved that night. He was able to attend all three nights and even brought a friend.

Annaleese, the Ranger co-captain, was recruiting after school and saw a group of middle school students that were dropped off in a neighborhood. She talked to the group and got a couple numbers. On Wednesday, one of the boys attended the War night. He responded to the invitation but didn’t fully understand. He came the next night and responded to the invitation again. This night, Matthew, the Ranger captain, was able to clearly lead him to the Lord. On Friday, he gave his testimony:

“Before I came here, I was actually Christian, but I didn’t really believe Jesus like he explained it, so when I came to them, they made me understand the full Word of God and He saved me.”

During the team meetings on Thursday, two Christian school girls on the Marine team responded to the invitation. Annaleese and Polly were able to talk with them. Both of the girls received Christ that day! After the split session on Friday, a young man responded in the invitation. Levi, the Seal captain, talked with him and realized that he was not saved. After reviewing the gospel, this young man got saved!

During the first chapel on Monday, several students raised their hands that they were unsure if they would go to heaven if they died. On Friday, after the final war night, a young lady responded and Polly led her to the Lord. She was one of the students who had raised their hands on Monday.

Matthew, the captain of the Ranger team, recruited a young man on Monday evening. This young man enjoyed the competition and listened to the message. When the invitation was given, he responded and talked with Matthew. That night he trusted Jesus as his Savior. On Friday he testified of his decision:

“Before I came here, I was sinning and treating my parents badly, but when I came here on Wednesday night, I trusted Jesus into my heart, and He washed away all of my sins.”

On Thursday, during the team meeting session, a young lady responded on the Seal team. Julianna was able to counsel and give her steps for victory. This young lady came clean about her media and got accountable with her mom.

On Tuesday, Annaleese and a couple school students were recruiting at a nearby high school. Two guys received brochures, but the girls were unable to get their names or numbers. However, on Wednesday night, they both showed up and loved the competitions. When it came time for the preaching, they listened very well. They both responded to the invitation and were saved!

There was a high school young man that the team had been praying for. On Thursday night after the rally, Simeon approached him about his salvation. He understood his need, but before he had the chance to make a decision, his ride picked him up. Before he left, Simeon challenged him to think about what they had discussed. The team prayed that Satan would not snatch the seed from his heart. The next morning, Simeon pulled him aside and asked him if he’d like to trust Jesus as his Savior. The young man commented that he had been thinking about it all night. Friday morning, this high school young man was gloriously saved!

On Wednesday, Matthew counseled a young man who admitted that he was struggling with bitterness and purity. He chose to get open and honest with his parents and shed light on his secret life. He also made a plan and took clear steps to stay accountable. He testified on Friday:

“The Lord has just been working on me on accountability…having the people who need to know what they need to know…being honest with them, and that they would be able to trust me…I have some things that I need to be honest with my parents about….I believe the Lord has called me somewhere into the ministry, and I would like to be on a good start with the people that I need to be honest with….The Lord has also spoken in my heart about just standing up for what is right among my friend group…I know I haven’t been the friend I ought to be…laughing when there were things that…were not right… I want to have a relationship with the Lord that I believe is real.”

Annaleese was able to talk with a girl on Wednesday after the chapel invitation. She had been struggling with a difficult family situation. That day she chose to trust God with it and ask Him for His enablement to forgive. She shared her decision at the camp fire service:

“God has helped with some bitterness that I had in my heart that I thought I took care of, but is actually still there….I [also] realized I haven’t been spending enough time with God throughout the day…. I have decided I want to be real inside my heart so I’ve taken up the challenge that I’m going to spend time with Him each day for at least 21 days.”

We praise the Lord for all He did this week in Deltona!
