The War Week #3 – Clarksville, TN

Bobby BoslerThe War Updates

Cross & Crown Baptist Church is located in Clarksville, TN just outside the Fort Campbell military base. Many of the people in the church work at the base and are a part of the military. Pastor Caldwell and Pastor Weidmann have been looking forward to bringing The War into their military town for months, expecting a heated competition and a great harvest.

Indeed, a heated competition we had, that’s for sure. The first night, the temperature was in the high 90s. The Navy team had a strong start, winning both outside competitions and almost all of the inside competitions. The second night, things heated up even more with temperatures reaching 104 degrees. The Army team made an incredible comeback and ended up barely surpassing the Navy team in the points at the conclusion of the night. The final night we had the hottest competition yet at 108 degrees. Army won Fooseball, but Navy managed to pull out a victory in Tug O’ War. Inside, after the Navy team correctly answered eleven straight trivia questions in a row, it seemed that the Army team was about to be beaten. However, Army won two key victories in the Cheering Contest and Big Bonus, and therefore finished the night at 60,000 points with Navy trailing at 53,600 points. We had a total of 109 teens attend our event over the three nights, with a high night of 74.

Besides the victories in the competitions, we had great spiritual victories as well. The first night, despite great spiritual opposition and disruption during the preaching, 8 teenagers trusted Christ as their Savior in the invitation. The second night, we had 6 teens respond at the invitation and trust Christ. After the invitation, one of our team members was able to talk to the grandmother of one of the young ladies in the counseling room and lead her to Christ. I would love to have heard the conversation between the two of them during that car ride home! The final night, 5 teens responded in the invitation, all of them clearly depending on Jesus alone to save them. Another one of our team members had been trying to help a mother who attended with her children during the preaching. Afterward, she was able to talk to her and lead her to Christ. It turns out, she didn’t even have a child in The War; she just came to watch! At the same time, one of the team captains confronted a young man who obviously resisted the Holy Spirit during the invitation. After a few moments of talking, he prayed for the young man. When he concluded the prayer, the young man placed his faith in Jesus. All in all, 22 individuals trusted Christ as their Savior this week! Praise God for the power of the gospel!
